Nagasaki

Nagasaki is a series of images of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki set to the 1928 Song ‘Nagasaki’. The deliberately small images displayed on the screen are to encourage people to lean in to see. The actual imagery may cause the viewer’s gaze to avert. The content of the pictures in fast succession coupled with the happy and nonsensical lyrics on the song are designed to increase the watcher’s discomfort. The happy tune will have added resonance when it is considered that Nagasaki was not the original target for the second bomb but suffered because it enjoyed good weather whilst the first target was shrouded in cloud.

Is there such a thing as luck? Where was God’s will in this?
