Like all faiths, the Christian church struggles to explain away the moral dilemmas that war and conflict throws up. On the face of it, the commandments “thou shall not kill” and thou shall not covert thy neighbours ox” are clear enough, but humankind struggles to keep to those, and once the line is crossed, how far should an aggressor be appeased?
